The Trio of Terror: Pricing, Selling & Introducing yourself

By Clare Morris, Founder of CMR Focus & Growth

With time, practice, and a little bit of support, you can learn to price with confidence, sell with authenticity, and introduce yourself with ease. The goal isn’t perfection — it’s progress.

Let’s be honest — being a business owner comes with its fair share of challenges. But if there’s one area that seems to tie us all in knots, it’s this trio of terror: pricing yourself, selling yourself, and introducing yourself. I mean, honestly, what’s worse?

You’re staring at your pricing sheet, trying to figure out how to charge what you’re worth without sending clients running for the hills. Or you’re at a networking event, clutching your coffee cup for dear life, wondering how to avoid sounding like a robot when someone asks, “So, what do you do?

If you’ve been in these situations, trust me—you’re not alone. And while I’m a business coach, I’ve been through this too. In fact, I still wrestle with it at times! But the important thing is, it’s all part of the process.

The Pricing Struggle

Let’s start with pricing. Ah, yes, the classic dilemma. You know your value, you know what your services are worth, but the moment you type out that figure, your fingers freeze. “Is this too much? Am I underselling myself?” Suddenly, you’re spiralling into self-doubt.

Setting your price isn’t just about the number — it’s about recognising your worth and standing firm. Over the years, I’ve helped many clients gain the confidence to do just that, but I’ll be honest… there are still days when I question myself, too. It’s normal! The key is not letting that hesitation stop you from charging what you deserve.

Selling Yourself Without Feeling ‘Salesy’

Now, onto the art of selling yourself. If you’re anything like me, this might make you break out in a cold sweat. There’s something about talking up our own skills and services that feels unnatural, even uncomfortable. And yet, as business owners, it’s a necessary part of the job. Here’s what I’ve learned over time: you don’t have to be salesy to sell. The best way to sell yourself is to stay authentic. Talk about what you love to do, how you help people, and let your passion speak for itself. Yes, it takes practice, but the more genuine you are, the less it feels like selling. You’re simply sharing your value with the world.

The Ever-Awkward Introduction

And then, we come to the grand finale—introducing yourself. Whether it’s crafting the perfect elevator pitch or casually explaining what you do at a networking event, this one has tripped me up more times than I can count.

The pressure to sound polished and professional, while also being engaging and memorable, can leave even the most seasoned entrepreneurs tongue-tied. But here’s the thing: you don’t have to nail the perfect intro every time. In fact, the more relaxed and real you are, the better. The aim isn’t to impress — it’s to connect.

Embracing the Imperfection

So, what’s the big takeaway here? These tasks—pricing yourself, selling yourself, and introducing yourself—are hard. There’s no denying it. But that doesn’t mean we have to get it right every single time. The goal isn’t perfection — it’s progress.

As a coach, I’ve guided many business owners through these very struggles. And guess what? We’ve all faced the same doubts and frustrations. The good news is, you can get better at it. With time, practice, and a little bit of support, you can learn to price with confidence, sell with authenticity, and introduce yourself with ease.

The best part? You don’t have to do it alone. I’m here to help you navigate these challenges, as someone who has been (and sometimes still is!) right where you are.
