Focus, flow, & the freedom, to work your own way

Why a couple of mindful hours can change everything for your business (and your nervous system).

On the first Thursday of each month, a small group of entrepreneurs show up online together. Some are in PJs, some in their favourite workwear, some clutching a half-eaten biscuit or accompanied by a curious pet! This is Focus & Flow, our monthly co-working session that invites you to work gently, with intention, community, and accountability.

And it works.

In August, I (Clare) hosted the session solo, and it was a reminder of how powerful this simple space can be. I began with our usual mindful journaling prompt:

We also checked in with our physical space: were we sitting comfortably, free of tension, well-hydrated? These are the foundations of calm, focused work.

As I journaled alongside everyone, I realised I was already rearranging my priorities. The workshop I’d planned to start on? Suddenly, another task felt easier. But rather than following the momentary urge to avoid the harder thing, I circled back. I decided to stick to the plan.

That decision was the first shift of the morning.

Showing up changes the energy

The project I committed to was preparing for a new free workshop: Business Breakthrough. It’s for people on the fence about coaching, or unsure if I’m the right fit. I want to offer them something tangible. A space to experience what it’s like to be supported, heard, and sparked into action.

Once I’d decided to lean in, it flowed. That morning, I wrote the outline for the event, reconnected with past clients, and drafted a catch-up email that actually felt like me. I rehydrated, took breaks, wandered into the garden, had a chat about wolves (true story), and still managed to get more done than I’d planned.

Why it works

Because you’re not doing it alone.

When you start with a clear intention and give yourself permission to work gently (but with purpose), you enter a different mode. Add in some light structure, a timer, a break, and the knowledge that someone else is out there doing the same, and suddenly, it’s easier to focus.

Even when it’s hot or cold. Even when you’re overwhelmed. Even when you’re doing something hard.

At Focus & Flow, you’re not told how to work. You’re invited to tune in to what you need. And that is productivity with purpose.

The little things that made a big difference

Journaling changed my mindset. Having a timer kept me accountable. Breaks (and bees!) brought me back with more clarity. Working alongside others made me feel seen and supported.

By the end of the session, I had made progress on something important. And more than that, I felt good. Recharged. On track.
