You’re Not a Fraud – You’re Growing”: What We Learned About Imposter Syndrome from Debs Cassar-Egan

Reflections from the Conscious Entrepreneurs session with Debs Caesar-Egan

At our October Conscious Entrepreneurs session, we had the absolute privilege of welcoming Debs Cassar-Egan of Inspire Me, Inspire You. With warmth, honesty, and expert insight, Debs took us through one of the most commonly felt but rarely spoken-about challenges faced by business owners, creatives, and professionals alike: imposter syndrome.

If you’ve ever felt like you don’t belong in the room, doubted your success, or found yourself overworking just to prove your worth, you’re not alone. And more importantly. There’s a way through.

Understanding Imposter Syndrome

Debs opened by demystifying imposter syndrome: a psychological pattern where individuals doubt their accomplishments and fear being exposed as a fraud—even when there’s ample evidence of their competence.

It shows up in different ways:

  • The Perfectionist – Always chasing flawlessness and never feeling good enough.
  • The Natural Genius – Expecting success to come easily or not at all.
  • The Rugged Individualist – Believing worth only comes from doing everything alone.
  • The Expert – Feeling you must master everything before you’re worthy.
  • The Superhero – Overcompensating through overwork and constant hustle.

These types aren’t labels to box us in—they’re tools to understand our thinking and take back control.

Debs’ Personal Experience

In a powerful moment, Debs shared her own story of being invited to speak in front of a room of judges. Her imposter voice screamed: “Why me? They’ll see right through me.” But she reframed it. She acknowledged her lived experience, her knowledge, her unique voice. And she showed up, not despite the fear, but alongside it.

It was a reminder to all of us that courage doesn’t come from never doubting ourselves; it comes from acting anyway.

Tools for Moving Forward

Debs left us with practical guidance:

  • Awareness is power – Recognise the voice of imposter syndrome when it shows up.
  • Reframe the narrative – Replace “I don’t know enough” with “I’m learning and growing.”
  • Visual reminders – Keep a list or board of achievements to ground you in fact, not fear.
  • Kindness over criticism – You’re not failing; you’re evolving.

Why These Sessions Matter

Debs’ talk was more than informative. It was healing. It reminded everyone in the (Zoom) room that we’re not alone in these thoughts, and that being conscious entrepreneurs means facing the internal work too.

These sessions are part of what makes the Conscious Entrepreneurs community special: monthly meetups filled with truth, tools, and togetherness.

Thank you, Debs, for helping us feel seen—and for reminding us that we are more than our doubts.
