Growing Your Business with Purpose: Lessons from Our August Event

Reflections from the Conscious Entrepreneurs session with Clare Morris

Sometimes the best outcomes happen when plans change.

Our August Conscious Entrepreneurs event was set to feature a guest speaker, but life had other ideas. With just minutes to spare, our session shifted direction. At first, I worried the event might not go ahead at all.But what unfolded was one of the richest and most valuable conversations we’ve had together.

Instead of 20 minutes with a speaker, we shared over two hours diving deep into our monthly resource: Growing Your Business with Purpose: A Conscious Entrepreneur’s Guide. What a gift it turned out to be.

Wow Moments

From journaling reflections on rest to discussing boundaries, growth, and marketing, the room (both virtual and real!) was filled with honesty, wisdom, and practical insight:

  • Rest matters for business health – We shared how routine, discipline, and environment shape our ability to switch off. From setting up garden offices to walking the dog every few hours, the conversation reminded us that how we rest is just as important as how we work.
  • Growth isn’t always about revenue – True growth can mean refining who we serve, aligning more closely with our values, or outsourcing so we can focus on impact. As Simon said, it’s about reaching the scale where you are happy. Not growth for growth’s sake.
  • Boundaries are essential – We explored how to hold firm against out-of-hours demands, manage client expectations, and ensure our businesses serve us. Not the other way around. Debs shared how vital it is to protect weekends and honour the work-life balance we promise ourselves.
  • Marketing doesn’t have to be overwhelming – We reframed social media as simply marketing – one part of visibility and connection. The best approach? Share snippets of value, repurpose what you’ve already created, and don’t underestimate the power of word of mouth.
  • The power of asking others – A brilliant idea surfaced: ask three people to describe your business in their own words. It’s an eye-opening way to test whether the way you think you’re seen matches how you’re actually experienced.

Why the Resource Matters

Our Growing Your Business with Purpose guide gave us the structure we needed to shape these discussions. It prompted reflection, sparked debate, and ensured that even without a guest speaker, we left with tangible ideas to apply straight away.

And this is just one of many resources available to members. Each month, Conscious Entrepreneurs creates practical tools designed to help you reflect, realign, and grow with purpose. From pricing and branding to productivity and vision, our resource library is a treasure trove waiting to be explored.

The Value of Being in the Room

What this month proved is that no matter what happens, showing up is always worth it. Even when plans change, we find ways to bring value, together. Instead of a short speaker slot, members received 90 minutes of coaching, conversation, and connection that left us energised and full of ideas.

Final Thought

Business growth isn’t linear. It’s shaped by purpose, guided by boundaries, and fuelled by community. Whether you join us for a guest speaker, a workshop, or to work through a resource, you’ll always leave with insights to strengthen your business and yourself.

What the Future Holds

Gavin is the first to admit the future is “messy and uncertain” but that’s not a reason to stop.
The next steps for One Tree at a Time are rooted in its community hub.
The Re-Action Collective is evolving into a sociocracy, sharing power so it can grow without bottlenecks.
ACTionism is expanding into a storytelling and action network, proving that small acts, done with joy, do ripple outward.
And for all of us?
Gavin’s message is simple: find the others.
“When I’m looking at all these impacts, all these things I’m feeling, it’s incredibly difficult to be joyful on my own.
But when you’re part of a collective, that weight lifts.
Everyone is acting. And that’s joyful.”

Why This Matters

Gavin’s work reminds us that we don’t need to scale one solution, we need to spark thousands of local ones.
We don’t need more guilt. We need connection.
Because the future isn’t something we wait for. It’s something we create together.
